Paint (or pinto) horses just fascinate me artistically - they're basically walking abstract art. I'm currently in a "multi-image" phase, where I divide up the canvas and explore a theme or a subject through related but independent panels. Right after I created "Coats of Paint", I was so excited by that piece that I immediately set to work on this one, exploring a gorgeous crop of foals of the year from my favorite paint horse ranch in Wyoming. Their patterns and attitudes were quite appealing, and creating the abstract division of the panel made for a very satisfying composition.
